Brand New PCB Variant Found!

I haven’t updated this website in like a year now? There just wasn’t anything else to add, at least until last week.

I received a message from shorthop, a member of the CGCC community, telling me that they’ve found a brand new GameCube controller pcb variant. And indeed it is, an update over the latest board used in the Smash Ultimate controllers, jumping from CFS8280-500020-00 to CFS8280-500030-00. The small trigger boards, held up by the rumble bracket on the back, also got upgraded, going from CFS8280-520020-00 to CFS8280-520030-00. The C-stick board has not changed however.

This brand new variant doesn’t seem to have any big changes at first glance, other than a new paintjob. The underpaint on the main board is now teal instead of green. This can be seen on the edges of the board, and on the top of the trigger boards.

So why are we getting an update to the GameCube controller so late? It’s been nearly 5 years since the release of the original Smash Ultimate variant. We can only speculate from here, but it’s honestly pretty exciting…

Thanks to shorthop for the discovery, and a huge thanks to the CGCC community for being so active with the GameCube controller. I could not have done this entire documentation project without them, and this new variant would’ve probably flew under my radar since I’ve been working on other projects. They’re doing a lot of work customizing controllers, so if you’re interested in these kinds of things I greatly recommend this group.
