New GCC-style Wireless Switch Controller Announced

I think we all saw it coming with the grey N64 controller Nintendo released back during the Switch days, but good news: we’re getting a new Gamecube controller, it’s wireless, and it’s directly compatible with the new Switch 2. Both will be available for purchase on June 5th 2025 in all regions. The presentation was very brief and we don’t have much information just yet, but here’s what we got so far.

I believe we will only have the option of an Indigo controller, just like the N64 Switch controller only came in grey. The design seems to be pretty much unchanged except for an additional “ZL” button to mirror the original blue Z button, a USB-C connector on top with five LED indicators, additional Switch controller menu buttons and a new “C” button for the new chat feature. All on top of the controller. On top of that, the shell has been retooled to remove the dip and hole for the wire that originally came out from the top.

Of course, this controller will not be compatible with the original GameCube hardware. We unfortunately don’t have a picture of the back side of the controller yet so I don’t know if the shape has been changed, or anything about the internals.

Just like all the previous classic controllers, this will only be available to paying customers of the Switch Online program, and it seems to be limited to one purchase per customer in the US and Canada at least. Price to be determined.

I will create its own page once I get all the information and a good teardown of the unit, and will update the guides accordingly. It’s nice to finally update this resource! So keep an eye out for updates.
