The Club Nintendo service was first introduced to the Japanese market on October 31st of 2003, where you could redeem points from purchasing Nintendo products to exchange for nice rewards. Of the first 6 prizes announced, the Club Nintendo themed GameCube controller was among them, exchangeable for 500P (roughly 10 games) by December of the same year. Five more themed controllers joined the lineup with the last two being offered in October of 2005. The Mario controller was also released through the VIP 24:7 program in Europe.
